Question 75. A man sold a chair and table together for Rs 1520/- thereby making a profit of 25% on chair and 10% on table.By selling them together for Rs 1535/- he could have made a profit of 10% on a chair and 25% on a table.Find the Cost price of each. by p n raghunath, answered on Oct 6, 2007 at 1:31 p.m.
Answer 75. Let CP of chair = Rs x
Let CP of table = Rs y
                    according to condition 1
                   125x/100  +  110y/100  =  1520
        or        125x  +  110y  =  152000
        or        25x    +  22y   =   30400       ........... (i)
                  according to condition 2
                  110x/100  +  125y/100  =  1535
        or      110x       +   125y       =   153500
        or      22x   +   25y  =   30700      .............(ii)
Solving by any method we get
                 x = 600, y = 700
CP of chair = Rs 600
CP of table = Rs 700
Question 76. Find the value of K for which the points (2,5), (K,11/2), (4,6) are collinear by Ganesh RJ, answered on Oct 7, 2007 at 8:59 p.m.
Answer 76.  Let A(2,5), B(K,11/2) and C(4,6)
                     Since the points are colliniear
therefore area of triangle ABC = 0
                     1/2[2(11/2 - 6) + k(6 - 5) + 4(5 - 11/2)] = 0
        or         2(-1/2) + k(1) + 4(-1/2) = 0
        or         - 1 + k - 2 = 0
        or         k = 3

Question 78. A farmer has 49 cows. Each cow gives the same amount of milk(in kgs) as its no.For example 1st cow gives 1kg milk,2nd cow gives 2 kgs.......................49th cow gives 49kgs.These cows are to be distributed to 7 persons such that each gets 7 cows & each one should get equal amount of milk. Also describe which person gets which no. of cows? by Mohit Khetpal, answered on Oct 11, 2007 at 8:55 p.m.
Answer 78. 1,2,3,4 ........49
                     this forms an A.P. with first term(a) = 1, and common difference (d) = 1
Total milk given by all cows = (n/2)(a + l) where l is the last term
                                                    =  (49/2)(1 + 49)
                                                    =  (49/2)50
                                                    =  1225 kg
Each of the 7 persons gets  =  1225/7
=  175 kg of milk giving cows.
Though the last part is not in syllabus but still we answer it the possibilities may be
